DESIGN PROJECT 4 (CCM)
PROFESSOR RICARDO CASAS
ART AND MOVEMENT THROUGH LIGHT
Conceived around the idea of artistry and pep, this project briefed students to design contemporary light fittings that resonated with the work of artists and designers. Additionally, the lamps were to have a mechanism that allowed for further impetus and prompted more intimate user interaction.
DESCENSO
Emilio González and Héctor Alvizo
HONORARY MENTION
Inspired by the work of Richard Serra and Donald Judd Descenso is a luminous device that allows the quick transformation of a room’s ambiance by means of an analog dimmer. Its magnetic rail system allows the user to manipulate the beam angle, elevation and hue of the light as it hits the plate that works as a reflector. Its steel construction is simple yet contemplative and allows it to easily shift from a night lamp to a daylight fitting.
SATÉLITE
María José Alvarez Estrada and Ivette Elguea García del Camino
SATÉLITE is an ornamental table lamp of indirect light based on 3 principles: balance, tension and dynamism. Thanks to it’s simple push-button mechanism, manufactured by 3D printing, the user can move the spotlight along the main arc. This can be followed by the movement of the lampshade which allows you to direct the light projection. The lamp is made of different materials including: carbon steel, Mexican white quarry and textured acrylic.
HALO LAMP
Adriana Verónica Arciniega and Daphne Cortés Hernández
Halo: lamp inspired by the use of colors, shapes and the play of light in the spaces of James Turrell. Through a rotary mechanism creates a contrast of light on any surface where the lamp is placed. Halo, is composed of pieces made in 3d printing in yellow and blue, and a magnetized metal mechanism that allows that rotation and ease of movement on metal surfaces.
Also, it can be transported anywhere helping the user to provide light at the time and space in which it is required.
LUMI: THE GREEN LAMP
Mariana Villeda and Karla Mariana Soto
Lumi is a table lamp, whose energy is generated by the plant contained within itself. It’s the product of an amalgamation of science, technologý and design; inspired by the similarly intermediary work between technology and nature of artistic group TeamLab.
The key behind its operation is a Microbial Energy Cell; a concept that takes advantage of the natural phenomenon that is the production of electrons by certain microbes in the soil.
