The goal of the course is to encourage students to design and develop electronic household devices that are not only functional and innovative but also aesthetically pleasing. These devices should be inspired by the themes, visual elements, or characters from one of the seven pre-selected contemporary Mexican films. By drawing from these films, students are expected to integrate cultural and cinematic influences into the design process, exploring how aesthetics, technology, and interaction can come together to create a cohesive product that reflects both modern living and the artistic narrative of the chosen films. This approach encourages creativity and provides a unique perspective on how film and design can intersect in everyday life.

TLATELOLC@S

Erick Juárez, Andrés Flores

Tlateloc@s is a family of technological products that combine the essence of the film “Temporada de Patos” with the architectural brutalism of Tlatelolco, the central setting of the story. The collection includes a lamp, speaker, timer, and base, each piece reflecting the complex emotions of the main characters: Moko, Rita, Ulises, and Flama.

Materials such as concrete, metal, acrylic, and 3D printing evoke the materiality of Tlatelolco, while its technology, based on Arduino and simple electronic components, ensures functionality and coherence with the design. The collection captures the urban, minimalist aesthetic of the area while providing a contemporary, interactive experience.

Efímeros is a family of electronic objects designed to symbolize the passage of time and the beauty of the ephemeral. With a parametric design inspired by ocean waves, the collection includes a wheel mechanism timer with light and an alarm based on electromagnetic sensors.

These pieces are crafted to create a sensory and emotional experience, connecting the user to the fleeting nature of time. The design encourages mindfulness, allowing the user to engage with the moment while appreciating the transient beauty found in everyday life.
