EL NIDO

Juan Manuel Mendoza

‘El Nido’ is a proposal for urban furniture, its objective is to create a recreational and safe space for early childhood. Inspired by the life cycle of a butterfly from being an egg, it becomes a caterpillar, then a pupa, until it hatches and emerges as an adult butterfly, we design a route of children’s games and other elements that complement and give identity to this space.

ORUGA

This collection of artifacts is based on freedom, loneliness and guilt. It seeks to narrate the story of the displaced person of the future in a speculative world, where as a result of the climate crisis, we are all in constant movement.

The project invites you to recognize not only the complexity of the emotional needs of migrants, but also the privilege and longing to find a place to call “home”.

PUPA

The pupa is a stage of metamorphosis where the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, and for this game, we were inspired by how this cocoon attaches to the branch. Translating this into a suspended seat tied to the beam, simulating a branch."

ECLOSIÓN

After the pupa stage comes the moment to take flight. Like a butterfly just emerged from its cocoon, we aim for the child to simulate the beginning of a butterfly's flight.

By crossing the frames starting with the smallest one where they must bend down or even crawl to pass through, and as they progress through the subsequent frames, these become larger allowing more movement until they can run and take off.

LA CIMA

At the heart of this park lies 'The Summit,' a space inspired by the stage of pollination where the child, taking on the role of a pollinator, can approach flowers by ascending through challenges and tools to reach the top and canopy of the trees, and then descend rapidly through a slide.
