DESIGN VALUE

DESIGN FOR VALUE AWARD

Within a multidisciplinary group of design and engineering bachelor students, the design challenge was conceptualizing an interaction-smart device to provide a vital-signs reading from senior urban users' basic check-up health condition. This device should also have the functionality of recording the user's behaviour to offer assistance through a self-adaptability feature, to make it effortless for the user the pursued outcome: record their health condition. The device would be located at pharmacy store franchises, and the data should become a national health record database, providing our health system updated information for preventive purposes.

This project joins a Medi-Robot and an app (or card) to create a platform that helps with the prevention of NCDs in the older population in Mexico, by the recording and monitoring of vitals.
We also aim to create a database that helps the Mexican Health System understand these patterns within their population, and create better health and prevention programs.

Mexico City is home to more than 1 million people over the age of 60 and this number is expected to triple by 2030. Unfortunately, this population faces a large technological gap, causing feelings of rejection, frustration and helplessness.

Thus, we seek to integrate and empower the elderly to this new technological world through their daily activities, such as acquiring their medications without complications, through a more inclusive design for them and thus accompany them in this world that is constantly changing.

PREVENTIP

PrevenTIP is a preventive health service for the elderly, in which a smart device performs a basic health check during their visits to the pharmacy, analyzing it with their purchase of medicines; and it would send a report and recommendations to their cell phone, to review with their doctor. In addition, it encourages them to using technology to their advantage.
