HISTORY AND THEORY OF FASHION CCM

HISTORY AND THEORY OF FASHION IN MEXICO AND THE WORLD IN THE 20th CENTURY (CCM)

PROFESSOR ANA ELENA MALLET

FASHION FILM #SHOTONiPHONE & PODCASTS

The second half of 2020 was complex. The pandemic prevented us from returning to campus and the challenge as a teacher of a theoretical course - which was also being taught for the first time in the EADD - was to create a course whose output, and student submissions, were completely digital. The challenge was to create a program that would motivate students while guiding them to develop critical thinking and explore other skills.

We found in iPhone a training partner interested in providing us with the tools and support to generate an educational experience, with historical content associated to fashion that would result in original and motivating digital projects.

During the semester, the students worked, in teams, on two digital projects presented here: first a podcast, which had to include some of what they had learned in class. The objective of the podcast was to generate information, new ideas and discussion about Fashion in Mexico and the world during the 20th century. The results were well documented, revealing and enjoyable.

As a final delivery, students had to develop a short film, between 1 and 5 minutes, known in fashion jargon as a Fashion Film. The challenge, besides filming in teams, in confinement and with limited resources, was to make the short film with Iphone technology. #ShotOniPhone became the hashtag of the project while understanding and taking advantage of the benefits of that technology was another of the challenges posed.

The results are as moving as they are surprising, and when you watch them you can see that the students understood that fashion is circular, disruptive, timeless and above all it is a glance, a way of seen the world in a particular and original way.

MODA Y MUERTE

Karina Pérez, Sandra Luz Pérez and Andrea Canchola

“Dialogue Between Fashion and Death” by Giacomo Leopardi. The main idea is to portray the language of different époques, and to show how in each one of these, there is a continuous dialogue in which fashion eventually dies but as well reborns. This conversation is represented through a contemporary dance that serves as metaphor for the previous quote. At the end, death acknowledges that she shall not compete with fashion, but embrace their sisterhood and coexist forever.
